Iran is no stranger to revolution and the seizure of power by the children of the elite. Said Mohammad Reza Modarresi Yazdi (محمدرضا مدرسی یزدی) fits this description well. His father was none other than Ayatollah Mohammad Javad Yazdi, a close ally of Ayatollah Khomeini. Like his father, Modaressi Yazdi, participated in the revolution when he was a young man.
Yazdi studied at Qom Seminary.
Modarresi Yazdi joined the Islamic Revolution Committee after the revolution and moved to the Lorestan Province. Later, in Yazd Province, Modarresi Yazdi was part of the monitoring committee for the first parliamentary elections. Modarresi Yazdi also participated in research activities for Dar Rah-i-Haq, which was founded by Mesbah Yazdi and others.
Modarresi Yazdi established Partow-i-Saqalain Scientific, Research and Cultural Organization, for the purpose of study and research in the sciences of Ahlul-Bayt (the family of Mohammad). The organization receives government funds, which Modarresi Yazdi used for private purposes and the promotion of his own ideas instead of for teaching and research for seminary students.
The Supreme Leader appointed him to a seat on the Guardian Council after the death of Ayatollah Mohammad Hasan Ghadiri in 2004.
In 2015, Modarresi Yazdi ran a losing campaign for a seat on the Assembly of Experts for Leadership representing Tehran Province.
